A slower side of Athens appears in the first light — shutters opening, coffee arriving and stone streets still cool from the night.
Athens changes completely before the day gathers speed. In the first hours of the morning, the city feels intimate: bakery doors open onto quiet pavements, chairs are pulled onto terraces and the Acropolis catches the light before the streets fill.
This is when we like Athens most. Not as a checklist of monuments, but as a sequence of small rituals — a first coffee taken slowly, a walk through a neighborhood before the shops open, the sound of a delivery scooter turning down a narrow street.
Stay close to the center, but leave room in the day for detours. The best moments are often the ones that were never scheduled.
